iPhone 5, Apple’s next generation iPhone will be launched in 2012

The iPhone 4S was a bit of a disappointment for millions of people around the world as it was very similar to the iPhone 4 Actually, it was exactly the same as the iPhone 4 in design and physical appearance. Though the iPhone 4S had a faster processor, IOS5 and a pretty cool virtual assistant in Siri, there were many who were still not satisfied with what the iPhone 4S had to offer. Some even joked around that Apple had simply stuck a “S” sticker on the iPhone 4. Though Apple sold more than 4 Million iPhone 4S handsets on the weekend of its launch, it has to be said that many more millions actually skipped on the upgrade to the iPhone 4S, preferring to wait it out for the iPhone 5. In the following passages, we will discuss the possible or probable specs that might be featured in the Apple iPhone 5 and will also briefly touch upon the release date of the next iPhone, due to be launched in 2012.

4G Speeds in the iPhone 5

The 4G network has arrived, with a big bang. Considering that 4G can result in download speeds that are in excess of 28.8Mbps, it has to be said that 3G will soon be left in the dust. So, it is only obvious that Apple will or should include 4G LTE support in the iPhone 5. Several rumors actually suggested that Apple desperately tried to include 4G LTE support in the iPhone’s existing 3.5 frame although they just couldn’t do so because the phone was just too small for the rather large 4G LTE chips. So, this could essentially mean that the iPhone 5 will get a larger screen. More about the screen size is discussed below.

iPhone 5 Screen size – What will it be?

This is quite a difficult question to answer as there are a lot of factors that might affect the answer. First off, it is public knowledge that Steve Jobs firmly believed that 3.5 inches was the perfect screen size for the iPhone 5.Steve Jobs gave utmost importance to the design element of his products and felt that the 3.5 inch screen was just the “perfect” size for a phone. Even just before his death, he expressed his opinion that he still thought that the 3.5 inch screen was the best size for the iPhone, both current and future. Steve Jobs also believed that anything more than a 3.5 inch screen will result in a strain on the battery that Apple just does not tolerate.

The biggest hurdle for Apple to overcome, if it wants to use a larger screen on the iPhone 5 is that it has to figure out a way to keep pixel density at about 336 pixels per square inch (the famous retina display), if the iPhone 5 screen is going to be at least of the same resolution as the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S, both of which have retina display. Since retina display is almost impossible on a 4 inch screen on a 4.5 inch screen, Apple might be forced to keep the iPhone 5 screen size at the same 3.5 inches that have been featured in all the previous 5 generation of iPhone’s.

When in 2012 will the iPhone 5 be released?

Apple has never been a company that has announced the release date of their products at an advance date. As a result, we can only guess the possible release date for the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5. There are millions, probably just like yourself, who are expecting the iPhone 5 to come out in the summer of 2012. However, the Summer release date is usually reserved for the iPad models. With the iPad 3 due to come out in summer of 2012, the launch of the iPhone 5 could be delayed to October of 2012.

Quite recently, we read some very interesting rumors or assumptions that suggested that the iPhone 5 will be released on the first death anniversary of Steve Jobs, who passed away on October 5, 2011. October 5, 2012, aside from being a symbolic release date for Apple, is also a date that makes a lot of sense in terms of business. October is not too far away from the holiday shopping season and it will be prime time for releasing a high profile product like the iPhone 5.

Other interesting specs that might be included in the iPhone 5

While most people are only interested in whether or not the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen and also come with LTE support, there are others who are interested in the processor speed and operating system upgrade as well. There have been a few rumors that have seemed to suggest that the iPhone 5 is going to get a super fast quad core processor, along with a much more sophisticated and easy to use IOS6 However, the general consensus is that the iPhone 5 will retain the same A5 processor that is used in the iPhone 4S.

Honestly, we think that a quad core processor is overkill for a cell phone. So, in all likelihood, the iPhone 5 will get the same A5 processor that has been used in the iPhone 4S. But, we are hopeful that the OS will receive an upgrade as there have been several rumors that have suggested that the IOS6 will support some exciting features such as NFC support, facial unlock technology, panoramic camera mode and so on.
